    Hakko's iron is very good, but the interface is a dumpster fire. They should have used three buttons and nobody would have had the need to read the manual to avoid offsetting the tool. (Thankfully, it can be reset to factory settings quite easily, but still...)

    • @SparkysWidgets
      @SparkysWidgets Рік тому

      Thank you for the kind reply! I will post the code I used for the video to my github and link back here (it might take me a couple days). For short explanation, if you set the pins up on a port or in an array you can step through and set the dac state with a simple state machine quite easily. The output of the comparator goes into a GPIO pin used to see if we are high or low, based on the result we either keep the current pin set or clear it before moving to next state. You can configure the state machine to match the number of bits plus a setup step and final convert step, after that its just a mater of stepping through the state machine with a clock. (with some creative programming you can probably streamline this down) I am working on a follow up where I characterize the ADC and calculate the DNL and INL hopefully you find that one interesting too!

    great video...i realize its 9 years old but you're constantly moving closer to and away from your mic. Its pretty harsh on one's ears if you're using earbuds / headphones as you go from a whisper to far too loud. This is still one of the nicer videos on YT concerning the subject though.

    G´day I have recently acquired two used millermatic 252 from a workshop. One has a bernard gun and it´s ready for aluminium, everything is working fine. The other one is set up for steel, it was not feeding wire, I noticed the contactor was not working the 32v dc one, I installed a new contactor and I listen the dock sound right after I turn the machine on, turns out it was not feeding wire still... start playing around with my multimeter checking the voltage that goes to the wire motor , unplugged the wires, plug them back in and the motor start working, after that I was playing around and testing it and it was working fine. Next day It was not feeding wire again ... I am sorry for the long text .... just to see if you can understand and maybe help me with this... after some testing I noticed that if I put the bernad torch it works fine, and it also works with the original torch but only when the metal part of the torch is not touching the wire feeding drum ... triggers works fine and everything but as soon I touch the metal part of the torch inlet with the feeding drum metal structure it stops working .... thanks for your time all the advice is welcome cheers

    • @SparkysWidgets
      @SparkysWidgets 2 роки тому

      This almost sounds like it might be a problem with the torch's liner, you might want to try a replacement and see if works.

    Hey, what an excellent video, thankyou. I had question, im repairing a headphone that as wire disconnected from the post, I think I have two option correct if I'm wrong. 1. Re heat the original solder and afix the wire. 2. Add abit of lead solder to the post without removing old solder. But I'm not sure if the original solder is lead free or lead does this matter if I use lead on top without desoldering the original solder?

    • @SparkysWidgets
      @SparkysWidgets 2 роки тому

      You probably already figured this out, but you can mix and match in this instance. Adding leaded solder will decrease the overall melting temperature of the solder joint and of course mean its no longer lead free. You can also use Bismuth based solder like Chip-Qwik which can lower the temp and make it easier to rework. Hope this helps!

    @ericastier1646 3 роки тому

    the main difficulty is to get the iron temperature high enough but not too high as that would ruin the iron tip (assuming SnAgCu) . Since you are using very little solder there is little thermal conduction happening, if the land pads are connected to large metal planes on the PCB any heat from the iron is quickly dissipated and it becomes difficult to wet the land pads even with a lot of flux (flux does not conduct heat as well as solder, but it reduce surface tension of the molten solder). I find that practicing removing SMD components from scrap boards and soldering them back (with all the cleaning and flux steps) let you get a lof of feel for these things : flux, iron temperature, amount of solder on the tip to improve thermal conductivity. Given your video i suspect you are working at fairly high iron temperature and your style of using reflow to position smd's probably will not work with a smaller iron. A big tip like yours will get in the way in a denser layout.
